Leadership at Nothing Bundt Cakes

Grow, Lead, and Bring the Joy — Every Day.

At Nothing Bundt Cakes, our bakeries thrive because of strong, hands-on leaders who are passionate about creating exceptional guest experiences and running a high-performing small business. Leadership here is fast-paced, dynamic, and deeply rewarding — but it’s also a challenge that requires grit, adaptability, and entrepreneurial drive.

Whether you aspire to lead a team, oversee daily operations, or grow into multi-unit management, our leadership roles play a vital part in keeping our bakeries joyful, efficient, and successful.

What Leadership Looks Like at Our Bakeries

Being a leader at Nothing Bundt Cakes means stepping into a high-pressure, highly involved environment where every day brings new opportunities to lead both strategically and hands-on. Our key bakery leadership roles include:

  • Bakery Manager

  • Lead Supervisor

  • Assistant Lead Supervisor

Each role supports the bakery’s success differently - but all three require strong ownership, teamwork, and commitment to operational excellence.

Role Overview

How Do these Positions Differ?

Bakery Manager (BM)

“The Mini-CEO” of the Bakery

The Bakery Manager is responsible for the full scope of bakery operations, from performance management to sales execution and production quality. This role has ultimate accountability for KPIs, guest experience, and operational results.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing inventory, sales performance, and financial reports

  • Ensuring labor and cost controls (Prime Cost, SPLH)

  • Leading and developing the full bakery team

  • Overseeing scheduling, training, and operational standards

  • Traveling for training and occasionally supporting multiple locations

This is a hands-on, strategic role ideal for someone who thrives on ownership, problem-solving, and fast-paced decision-making.

Lead Supervisor (LS)

Operational Leader & People Developer

The Lead Supervisor bridges the gap between strategy and execution. Fully empowered to lead shifts, the LS plays a critical role in coaching staff, maintaining standards, and managing multiple locations when needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading daily shifts with full authority

  • Overseeing scheduling, time-off requests, and performance reviews

  • Coaching and mentoring team members

  • Upholding product standards and operational consistency

This role suits leaders who enjoy managing people, making decisions on the fly, and supporting multiple operational areas.

Assistant Lead Supervisor (ALS)

Emerging Leader & Shift Support

The Assistant Lead Supervisor supports daily bakery operations and is often the first step into leadership. ALS team members learn all stations and help ensure smooth bakery flow and guest service excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Running shifts in partnership with the LS or BM

  • Supporting baking, frosting, and guest service tasks

  • Helping maintain standards and pace during peak times

  • Growing toward future supervisory duties

This is an ideal role for team members eager to grow into leadership in a supportive, development-focused environment.

What It Takes to Succeed Here

Success at Nothing Bundt Cakes requires a unique blend of hands-on skill, operational focus, and leadership instinct. The most successful leaders tend to embody the following traits:

Entrepreneurial Drive

Our bakeries operate like small businesses. Leaders who treat them with ownership — making decisions, solving problems, and improving systems — thrive here.

Hands-On Commitment

Every leader learns and performs all roles: baking, frosting, guest service, and administrative work. This is often underestimated by external managers unfamiliar with high-touch, production-driven environments.

Adaptability & Resilience

Nothing Bundt Cakes is evolving rapidly, with frequent product changes, updated processes, and new systems introduced by corporate and private equity partners. Leaders must be able to pivot quickly, especially during high-volume holiday seasons.

Precision & Quality Focus

Creativity is encouraged in problem-solving — not in recipes. Our product requires consistency and attention to detail. Leaders who are meticulous, process-driven, and quality-focused excel.

High Achievement & Pace

The environment is productive and high-pressure, especially during “Super Bowl” holiday periods. Leaders must be able to set the standard for pace, initiative, and maintaining momentum.

Values Alignment

We hire leaders who embody our core values:

  • Bring the Joy

  • Servant’s Heart

  • Spirit of a Champion

These values guide how we treat our guests and how we support our teams.

How Our Leaders Navigate Challenges

We believe in transparent expectations — and in highlighting the strengths that make our bakery leaders successful. Here’s how effective leadership supports a high-performing bakery environment:

Rapid Skill
Mastery

External hires succeed when they embrace hands-on learning, stay curious, and commit to mastering every station and process within the bakery.

Proactive Training & Development

High-performing leaders use structure, checklists, and ongoing coaching to create clarity and consistency — supporting their team’s growth and readiness.

Effective Performance Under Pressure

Our leaders stay organized, prepared, and focused, guiding their teams through peak seasons and promotional periods with confidence and calm execution.

Adaptability
& Agility

Strong leaders stay flexible and responsive as systems, flavors, and brand standards evolve — helping their teams adjust quickly while protecting quality and standards.

We highlight these strengths to show candidates what effective leadership looks like at NBC — and to welcome individuals who are ready to grow with purpose and lead with confidence.

Compensation, Benefits & Growth

Compensation

Bakery leadership compensation typically ranges from $27,484–$36,000/year, depending on experience and location.

Comparable roles in other brands (Panera, Domino’s) may offer higher pay, but NBC provides meaningful career development, high leadership visibility, and hands-on business experience.

Benefits

Depending on location and franchise owner, leaders may receive:

Health benefits

Paid time off

Product discounts

Bonus opportunities

(In progress): 401(k) options

Training & Development

Our 30–90 day onboarding program includes:

E-learning modules

In-person and hands-on training (baker, froster, GSR)

Shadowing and mentorship

Weekly coaching check-ins

We’re committed to promoting from within — many BMs and LSs began as Guest Service Representatives.

Who Thrives in These Roles?

Leaders tend to be successful at NBC if they are:

  • Highly self-aware and coachable

  • Strong problem-solvers

  • Energetic and quick-moving

  • Committed to quality and precision

  • Passionate about team development

  • Motivated by running a small business

  • Comfortable receiving feedback and adjusting quickly

Cross-trained team members (those who can work FOH and production) are especially valued, as they help maintain lean, efficient operations.

ServSafe Certification Requirement

We require all of our leaders to obtain and maintain an active ServSafe Manager Certification. This ensures our teams uphold the highest standards of food safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
